YouTube Timestamp Link Generator

Make a link that opens a YouTube video at an exact minute and second. Works on phones too, where the YouTube app can't do it.

Works with watch, Shorts, Live and youtu.be links, or an 11-character video ID.

How it works

How to make a YouTube timestamp link

If your link already includes a time, it's filled in for you.

  1. Copy the video link

Copy the link of the YouTube video you want to share.

  2. Enter the time

Paste the link above and type the moment it should start at, such as 1:30.

YouTube timestamp links, explained

How YouTube timestamp links work

A YouTube link starts at a set time when it ends with t= and a number of seconds. These links all start at 1 minute 30 seconds:

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID&t=1m30s

This tool converts a time you type, such as 1:30 or 1:02:03, into seconds and builds both links.

Why not use YouTube's own "Start at"?

On a computer, YouTube's Share menu has a Start at box, but it only uses the moment the video is paused at. The mobile apps don't have the option at all. Here you type any time, on any device, without playing the video.

Timestamps in comments and descriptions

On YouTube itself you don't need a link: typing a time such as 2:45 in a comment or description turns it into a clickable jump to that moment. Timestamps in a description, starting at 0:00, also become the video's chapters.

Shorts and live streams

The Shorts player always starts from the beginning, so a time only works when the Short is opened as a regular video, which is what these links do. For past live streams, the time counts from the start of the recording.

FAQ

Timestamp link questions

How do I link to a specific time in a YouTube video?

Paste the video's link above, enter the time (for example 1:30) and copy the link. It adds ?t=90 to the link, which makes YouTube start at that second.

How do I share a YouTube video at a timestamp on my phone?

The YouTube app has no "Start at" option, so use this tool: paste the link, type the time and copy the result. It works in any mobile browser.

What time formats can I enter?

Seconds (90), minutes and seconds (1:30), hours, minutes and seconds (1:02:03), or YouTube's style (1m30s).

Does the timestamp work on YouTube Shorts?

Not in the Shorts player, which always starts from the beginning. The links this tool makes open the Short as a regular video, where the start time works.

Can I also set an end time?

Regular YouTube links only support a start time. To play just a section, use the embed code generator, which supports both start and end times.
