Only download content you own or have permission to use. Higher qualities are prepared on the server, so they can take a little longer to start.

Good to know
Video downloads, explained
Every quality, up to 4K
You see each resolution YouTube offers for the video, from 144p up to 2160p (4K), including 60 fps versions such as 1080p60 when the video was uploaded with them. Every option is an MP4 with sound.
- 1080p is the best choice for most people: sharp on almost every screen and playable everywhere.
- 1440p and 4K usually use the VP9 or AV1 codec. They play in browsers and VLC, but some older devices and editors can't open them.
- 720p and below save space and data.
The quality and formats guide explains resolutions, frame rates and codecs in detail.
Long videos and large files
Above 360p, YouTube stores picture and sound separately, so the server downloads both and joins them into one MP4 without re-encoding. For long videos in high quality this takes a while before your download starts; the page shows how long it has been preparing. Sizes for these options are marked ~ because they're estimated from the two streams.
Very large files, over 500 MB, aren't offered, to keep the service fast for everyone. If a 4K option is missing for a long video, try 1080p.
Downloading Shorts or audio?
Shorts links work here too, and the Shorts downloader explains how to save them to your phone's gallery. To keep just the sound, use the audio downloader.

FAQ
Video download questions
How do I download a YouTube video?
Copy the video's link, paste it into the box at the top of this page and select Get Video. You'll see every quality that's available. Select Download next to the one you want. The step-by-step guide covers desktop, Android and iPhone.
What is the highest quality I can download?
Whatever the video was uploaded in, up to 4K (2160p) and 60 fps. If a video was uploaded in 1080p, that's the highest option you'll see. YouTube never upscales.
Do downloaded videos have sound?
Yes. Every video option downloads as an MP4 with sound. Above 360p YouTube keeps video and audio separate, so they're joined on the server without re-encoding, which keeps the original quality.
Why does a 4K download take longer to start?
The server first downloads the separate video and audio streams and joins them into one file. That takes longer for big files. Audio-only and 360p downloads start almost immediately.
Why are some formats unavailable?
A quality only appears if YouTube actually provides it. It may be missing because the video was uploaded in a lower resolution, the format is protected (DRM), which this service doesn't bypass, or the file is larger than the size limit.
Why did my download fail?
The page tells you the specific reason. Common ones are videos that are private, age-restricted, members-only, removed or region-blocked, or YouTube temporarily limiting requests. See troubleshooting.
